Veylor Starhaven

Veylor Starhaven is the leader of the Crimson Vow, a prepared and instinctive spirit wielder who assembles overwhelming force to kill Atticus at the spiritual lake. His caution correctly identifies danger but still underestimates its magnitude.

Biography

The Crimson Vow's failed ambush

Veylor brings the elderly twins and the strongest pillars of the Crimson Vow because his instincts warn that Atticus cannot be treated as an ordinary seventeen-year-old. He expects the spiritual lake to impose an inescapable disadvantage and coordinates the surviving Grandmasters after Atticus's first burst of violence. Even when subordinates want to flee, Veylor keeps planning because the organization's entire strength and reputation are already committed. (Chapters 832–836)

Atticus kills Veylor's Chimera spirit, removing the immense physical enhancement and leaving the leader weak. Watching the Vow's pillars die, Veylor laughs at the inadequacy of his own preparation and recognizes that caution should have become retreat. Atticus pierces his heart and burns him to ash; Veylor's final wish of luck is directed toward everyone else who will eventually oppose the same monster. (Chapters 839–856)

Appearance and personality

Veylor carries a cold smile and later becomes bloodshot and manic as his plans collapse. He is cautious, instinctive, calculating, organizationally ambitious, and capable of grim self-awareness when defeat becomes unavoidable.

Abilities, bloodlines, and will

Veylor bonds a three-headed Chimera spirit. Its lion head enhances reflexes and physical speed, while the spirit releases psychic waves intended to paralyze. The bond greatly increases Veylor's strength, but killing the spirit removes the enhancement and leaves him vulnerable. Atticus's will ignores the psychic paralysis and his raw speed outmatches the empowered strikes. (Chapters 836–839)
