Niacin Aureline

Niacin Aureline is an overseer of the Gilded Debt who screens elite auction guests and manages the institution's relationship with Atticus. His commercial courtesy is supported by quick research and careful attention to the political risk surrounding powerful clients.

Biography

Valuing an unpredictable customer

Niacin requires proof of wealth before granting Atticus's group scarce auction seats, then immediately recognizes the significance of the high-grade will stones Whisker produces. After recording their names, he researches Atticus and learns that the newcomer has already defeated two of a viscount's sons. Niacin wants to cultivate the connection, but his cousin Janem warns that antagonizing the Redflames could endanger House Aureline's long effort to enter the central market. (Chapters 1357, 1360–1361)

When the auction is disrupted, Niacin personally delivers the Vein Root and waives payment, framing the gesture as protection of future business rather than charity. His decision preserves the Gilded Debt's relationship with a dangerous rising figure without openly committing the house against the Redflames; he departs alive after completing the handoff. (Chapters 1362–1363)

Appearance and personality

Niacin shares the Aureline line's hair and eye coloring with his cousin Janem, though the exact colors are not stated in these scenes. He is polished, observant, commercially shrewd, and willing to spend value now to secure a potentially larger relationship later.

Abilities, bloodlines, and will

Niacin displays rapid movement when he leaves after delivering the Vein Root and has the composure expected of a middle-plane auction overseer. No named combat technique, rank, bloodline, will path, activation method, or reliable upper limit is demonstrated, so greater power should not be inferred from his office alone. (Chapters 1357–1363)

Relationships

  • Atticus Ravenstein: A prospective high-value client whom Niacin researches and courts cautiously.
  • Whisker von Pounce: Supplies the will stones that satisfy Niacin's entry requirement.
  • Janem Aureline: Niacin's cousin, whose political warning tempers his enthusiasm.

Items

No finalized notable item is assigned to Niacin. The Vein Root is merchandise he delivers rather than a continuing personal possession.
