A ruler gambles on Atticus's trial

Mortrex is introduced through his son Zerakon's formal claim and later presides over the Ossara response to Atticus. During the Nexus competition, he accepts the opportunity to confront the human prodigy as a Grandmaster-scale test, stopping Atticus's sword and applying pressure without completing the expected kill. He leaves the encounter as a powerful but politically constrained ruler whose family hostility has been exposed before the watching domains. (Chapters 444, 457, and 489–509)

Appearance and personality
