Merek Dross

Merek Dross is a recurring figure whose decisions clarify the loyalties and power structures surrounding the central conflict.

Biography

Faction loyalty feeds a losing game

Merek participates in the Redflame faction's response to Atticus and promotes his children's talents within the Great Verge's game, confidently recommending Nerrot's ingenuity. The Great Verge publicly cuts through his flattering presentation, while successive family confrontations deepen the faction's hostility. By the later coalition war Merek is counted among the major faction representatives who moved against Atticus and fell, making his death part of the cost of inherited escalation. (Chapters 1339–1344, 1536, 1598, and 1615)

Appearance and personality

He has blazing eyes and the formal bearing of a Viscount, carefully clearing his throat and shaping answers to please superior beings. The corpus does not securely establish other fixed coloring. (Chapters 1339–1344)

Abilities, bloodlines, and will

Merek is a Redflame Viscount and high-level god whose Will follows the faction's heat-centered path. His exact attacks and rank are not demonstrated in a complete on-page duel, so his abilities are best limited to factional authority, divine Will, and the power implied by his title. The Great Verge can expose and override his political performance, and he later dies in conflict with Atticus. (Chapters 1339–1344 and 1615)

Relationships

Nerrot is one of the children whose talent he promotes; Atticus becomes the enemy around whom his factional choices collapse.
