Kancilot confronts Atticus believing the child god blocks Kariot's freedom, but caution survives beneath his public challenge. In the Arena, Atticus's Will crushes his resistance and forces him to accept the gulf between them. Kancilot chooses submission over annihilation, binds his Will to Atticus, and later serves among the trusted fighters gathered for the primordial crisis, preserving his people at the price of personal sovereignty.
