Eleanor travels with his family while discussing negotiations meant to halt attacks that have cost the Alverians heavily, yet he also places faith in a plan engineered through manipulation rather than open strength. When he later speaks of war, his father Thorne rebukes him for failing the first rule of knowing the enemy. The wider conspiracy eventually reaches Magnus, who identifies Eleanor as its instigator and makes clear that if Thorne refuses responsibility, Eleanor will be killed on sight.
