Duran is a fire-sanctum observer whose calm exterior conceals an interest in seeing Atticus removed by a hostile plant-aligned group.

Biography

Watching the prodigy

Duran stands near Cerron during the latter's attempted revenge and refuses to be intimidated by his heated threats. He initially expects Cerron to win, but listens to Joana's assessment and revises that judgment as Atticus's talent becomes undeniable. After Dekai takes Atticus away, Duran's concern is not for the student: he privately hopes the “plant” faction will strike soon, exposing his role as an observer waiting for outside enemies to solve the problem. (Chapters 583–592)

Appearance and personality

The corpus does not securely describe Duran's appearance. He maintains an impassive expression under hostility and thinks cautiously enough to adjust his forecast, but that composure serves a covert and hostile agenda rather than neutral professionalism. (Chapters 583 and 588–592)
