Fire teacher's final lesson

Dekai wastes no time on ceremony, requiring Atticus to address him as Teacher and immediately beginning a compressed course in advanced fire. His frail appearance hides pressure powerful enough to harden the ground and erase nearby flame, forcing Atticus to understand domination rather than simple heat. The training culminates in a combined-domain clash that kills Dekai. Atticus later remembers both the elder's age and the lethal standard of that encounter when judging another ancient master. Appearance and personality

Dekai is an extremely old man with a walking stick, appearing close to death even while containing enormous power. He is austere, direct, and indifferent to comfort, framing instruction as something that must meet urgency rather than flatter the student. (Chapters 569, 590, and 830)

Abilities, bloodlines, and will

Dekai commands fire at a level where his released pressure spikes the summit's temperature while leaving the ground around him hardened and flame-free. He can conjure a woman's figure through combustion and participate in domain-level combat. The precise bloodline, costs, and relationship between his age and power remain unknown; the combined domain that defeats him is explicitly lethal. (Chapters 569–593 and 671–717)
