Echohelm's cautious commander

Candence meets a restless garrison focused on the arrival of outsiders and tries to distinguish excitement from actionable danger. When reports become uncertain, he sides with Vyn's proposal to assess the situation before requesting distant reinforcements, motivated by the knowledge that premature escalation could leave the fort exposed. He leads the warriors toward the surface, where an overwhelming aura makes the scale of the crisis unmistakable and reduces ordinary command planning to survival. (Chapters 874–887 and 919–939)

Appearance and personality
