Blackgate

Blackgate is an Obsidian Order paragon whose labyrinth power turns the Order's assault on the Ravensteins into one of Atticus's most dangerous early battles.

Biography

The labyrinth breaks

Blackgate arrives as the superior before whom branch heads bow and immediately dominates the conflict by isolating combatants within his labyrinth. His intervention protects Order operatives and forces Atticus to confront a gap in rank that ordinary technique cannot close. Atticus survives by bonding with Ozeroth, briefly rises to Blackgate's level, and shatters the labyrinth before cutting down the paragon. Later references treat that borrowed parity as a benchmark rather than evidence that Blackgate survived. (Chapters 709–728, 840–868, and 1189)

Appearance and personality

Blackgate is defined more by oppressive authority than detailed features. He expects obedience from subordinates and treats the battlefield as a controlled enclosure, but remains willing to use allies as pieces within that structure. (Chapters 709–717 and 840–853)

Abilities, bloodlines, and will

Blackgate creates a vast labyrinth-like veil that separates space, relocates allies, and traps opponents within controlled engagements. The construct can be shattered by force at paragon scale, as Atticus demonstrates after Ozeroth's temporary boost. Its precise origin, upkeep cost, and relationship to bloodline or artifact are not fully explained. (Chapters 709–728 and 840–868)
